Sanyo: Facilitating movie blogs in Japan

Sanyo Case Study - DIGITAL MEDIA ACROSS ASIA

In March 2007, Sanyo, a world leading digital camera manufacturer, introduced the Xacti series of cameras in Japan with new technology and improved resolution. It aimed at enhancing the self-made digital movie experience for its users, and in order to build upon the idea, Sanyo engaged four major companies specializing in operating online communities, to facilitate the union of Xacti and Web 2.0 and give birth to Xacti 2.0. Xacti 2.0 enabled users to create their own 'movie blogs' and personally managed web-based movie broadcasting offices.

According to the Sanyo press release, the “Xacti 2.0 Project” has created a new movie culture, and Sanyo and these four companies have cooperated to spread a new way for people to “have enriched lives” and to “make life more enjoyable”. In addition to obvious profit, tapping upon Web 2.0 technologies has enabled Sanyo to create a user-generated movie culture in Japan and build stable relationships with its videoblogging customers.
