PTT Bulletin Board System is a terminal-based bulletin board system based in Taiwan aimed to provide a platform for the professional practice of students, relying on the service of the electronic bulletin board systems (BBS, Bulletin Board System). It was founded by students from the Department of Information Engineering of
National Taiwan University, and is currently administrated by the Electronic BBS Research Society. PTT is arguably the largest BBS in the world with more than 1.5 million registered users. During peak hours, there are over 150,000 users online. It has over 200,000 boards with a multitude of topics, and more than 40,000 articles and 1 million comments are posted everyday.
Wretch is a Taiwanese well-known blog community in Taiwan with thousands of users registered. Wretch is provided in four languages and provides free album, blog, and bbs hosting. It is the top visited site in Traditional Chinese languages and the second in Taiwan after Yahoo! Taiwan according to
Alexa. In July 2007, the largest acquisition in Taiwan took place when Yahoo! acquired Wretch. Since then, there have been complaints about the change in terms and conditions. Despite this, the membership number is constantly. increasing.

Plurk, just like Twitter, is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send updates (otherwise known as
plurks) through short messages or links, which can be up to 140 text characters in length. Updates are then shown on the user's home page using a timeline which lists all the updates received in chronological order, and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them.

Each year,
Taiwanderful nominates several blogs in the country as a means to encourage social media usage with thoughtful insights through the mass audience. There are no prizes offered but the awards aim to promote the wonderful content of Taiwan's blogs and encourage linking between Taiwan blogs.
